Description

138MW Amakhala wind farm project, located near Bedford, Eastern Cape Province reached financial closure, as the signing of financing agreements was completed on May 9, 2013. Amakhala is a 27,000 hectare area that is lightly populated yet close to good infrastructure such as roads and the national electricity grid. The wind farm will consist of 56 N117/2400 turbines. Cennergi Proprietary Limited, a project company for the wind farm project, is composed of Tata Enterprise(50%) and Exxaro Resources(50%) and it successfully tied up the entire debt requirement through a consortium of lenders, namely Standard Bank(US$164.15 million) and International Finance Corporation(US$164.15 million) with a 18 year loan. The total cost of the project is estimated at US$410.38 million and would be funded through a debt equity ratio of 80:20.
