Description
Description | Amata Power (Bankgpakong) Limited developed a 112 MW combined-cycle power plant in Bangpakongg Industrial Park, Chonburi Province. The plant consisted of 2x36 MW gas turbines and a 40 MW steam turbine. The plant was to sell 90 MW of power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under the Small Power Producers Program, and the remaining 22 MW was to be sold to factories in the Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate. The Amata Power Company was also involved in a 70-30 joint venture with EGCO to develop a 170-MW, US$176.7 gas-fired power plant at the same site that was to also sell energy to EGAT. The plant was initially owned by Amata Power Ltd (70%) and Electricity Generating Plc. of Thailand (EGCOMP, 30%). Amata Power Ltd was in turn owned by Energie Baden-Wurttemburg (30%), B Grimm Bayernwerk Electrowatt Ltd (51.2%), Bang Paking Industrial Park 2 Public Co., Ltd (13.77%) and B. Grimm Joint Venture Holding Limited (5.033%). In May 2000, Unocal (USA) acquired a 30% stake in the project from EGCOMP. Financial closure was reached in December 1996. The project was expected to cost 3.7 billion baht (US$148 million). The engineering/procurement contractor for the project was ABB of Germany, and the plant became operational during 2001. In October 2005, Amata Power announced that it intended to expand production capacity to 167 MW, financed by a 1.6 billion baht (US$42 million) loan from Kasikorn Thai Bank. The expansion was expected to be completed by June 2007. None None |
