Amazon and Veolia plan a reclaimed water system for cooling Amazon data centers in Mississippi. The system will treat wastewater from nearby treatment plants and reuse it to cool the data centers, reducing pressure on local drinking water supplies. The system is expected to begin operating in 2027 and will be the first reclaimed-water cooling setup used by Amazon in Mississippi. It is expected to reuse more than 83 million gallons of water annually, which would otherwise be supplied by municipal systems, the Big Black River, or pumped from aquifers. The system uses modular, containerized treatment units that can be scaled or replicated at other sites depending on local water availability and regulatory approval.
