Description

Description

The Ambaragodlu-Kalasavalli cable-stayed bridge over the Sharavathi backwaters is the longest in Karnataka and the second longest in India, stretching 2.44 km. It was built to improve connectivity to several villages in Sagar and Hosanagara taluks and to popular temples. The bridge addresses long-standing connectivity issues caused by the submergence of the region due to the Sharavathi reservoir since the 1960s. The project was sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in March 2019, with construction starting in December 2019, executed by Dilip Buildcon Ltd. The bridge features a 16-metre-wide deck, 604 box girder segments, 164 piles, 96 cables on four pylons, and spherical bearings, with approach roads extending 1 km on the Sagar side and 3 km towards Sigandur. It is expected to reduce travel time and boost local tourism and economic activity.
