Description
Description | Living in your own place. Having friends. Making your own choices. Being good at something. Belonging. All people share these ambitions. People with intellectual disabilities and their family members face segregation, discrimination and their rights are being systematically denied. This prevents them from leading the lives they want. We want to change this, and we will. We fight for equal rights, and inclusion of 20 million people with intellectual disabilities and their family members. We know how to achieve it. The law and policy exist, including the CRPD, the EU Disability Rights Strategy, Social Pillar, and national laws. These policies have improved the lives of many. What is needed is to make them work for everyone. Inclusion cannot be a “good practice” lottery. It is a right, and it must become the norm in our societies. We work to end segregation of people with intellectual disabilities by 2030. We do it by explaining why, describing how, and encouraging to carry out the necessary changes: - Promoting the right to live independently and be included in the community - National inclusion indicators, so that countries know where they need to improve - Training and support for (self)advocates, experts so they know which EU policies help inclusion - Promoting EU Disability Rights Strategy, Social Pillar - Research and policy-input into EU consultation and initiatives - Contributing to CRPD implementation, reviews - Promoting the right to vote - Writing articles, recording stories and informing European public We contribute EU Disability Rights Strategy and CRPD: - Promoting the strategy and CRPD in accessible way - National inclusion indicators, information about countries - Training and developing the capacity of national organisations - Exchange between organisations We contribute to principle 17 of Social Pillar: Trainings, videos, podcasts; Inclusive jobs, Support to inclusion. We promote rights of women: research, advocacy preventing violence |
