Description | Dubai-based renewable energy developer AMEA Power has commissioned the 600-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its 1,000-MW solar plus 600-MWh battery project in Benban, Egypt. The 500-kV substation at the project has also been commissioned and phased power dispatch to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) grid has begun. The project is expected to improve grid reliability and support renewables integration in Egypt, contributing to the country’s clean energy goals. It will become the largest solar plus battery energy storage project in Africa once fully operational. AMEA will build, own, and operate the facility under power purchase agreements with EETC and land agreements with the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). |
