AMELIORATION DES CAPACITES DE LA CICOS POUR LA GESTION DE L'INFORMATION SUR LE BASSIN DU CONGO

The CICOS Capacity Enhancement Project for the Management of Information and Knowledge on Water Resources in the Congo Basin is closely linked to the SAP development process. It is a necessary preliminary step. It is part of a large, coherent program of information management in the Congo Basin under development, which includes the GTZ support project, the SADC HYCOS project and Congo HYCOS. The implementation of this project will enable CICOS to fill the knowledge gaps in the basin and thus facilitate the preparation of the SAP. It is articulated around the following components: (i) rehabilitation of a minimum number of hydrological stations and establishment of a Congo-HYCOS project pilot, through the acquisition, installation and operationalization of automatic stations on hydrological reference sites; (ii) socio-economic study of riparian populations and women (in particular) living along the rivers of the Congo Oubangui Sangha basin; (iii) evaluation of the availability of hydrological data and information on the Congo Basin, their evaluation and preliminary analysis and establishment of a database and a pilot documentation center also accessible via the Internet. The total cost of the project is estimated at 505,000 Euros.
