Ameren Missouri Smart Substation in Cape Girardeau County

Ameren Missouri has activated a new smart substation near the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course to improve reliability and increase electric system capacity for about 3,400 customers in north Cape Girardeau and Jackson. The substation doubles the capacity of the previous facility, updates key components over 50 years old, and relocates the substation outside the floodplain to reduce flood risk. It features modern equipment that limits outages and speeds restoration, using smart technology for quicker issue detection and automatic restoration. The project also included surrounding line improvements with composite poles and supported Missouri-based businesses.
