America Embalagens S.A. (“America Embalagens” or the “Company” - https://www.americaembalagens.com), part of the Evora Group, produces plastic closures and packaging for food, beverages (mainly bottled water and soft drinks), home cleaning, personal care, and beauty markets. IFC is considering a US$70 million Loan, being US$35 million A Loan and US$35 million B Loan to America Embalagens, for the expansion and modernization of the facility in Jundiai, Sao Paulo state, which produces plastic preforms (tubes) used in packaging for the beauty and personal hygiene industries (the “Project”). The expanded facility will produce packaging products from up to 70% post-consumer recycled material (PCR) which will increase the production resource efficiency. , reduce the amount of plastic that goes to landfills and reduce GHG footprint of the production considering that plastic recyclizing uses less energy and fuel than virgin plastic production. In Brazil, plastic production generates approximately 8 million (m) tons of CO2 equivalent annually.
