AMÍLCAR is a feature length biographical creative documentary that portrays the life of Amílcar Cabral, one of the most important African anti-colonialist leaders, who was murdered by comrades of his own party fifty years ago. The actual perpetrators were detained; the intellectual minds behind it were not. The idea of the film was born after the director’s trip to Cape Verde in 2011 and the discovery of Amílcar Cabral’s figure, a man who put his life to the service of a crazy dream: uniting two countries, not only for their political independence, but also for their cultural and social emancipation. Human rights, utopias, interracial love, ambition, war and betrayal are all immensely cinematographic ingredients of this documentary project and that intertwine themselves in Cabral’s life. Mosaic (Spain) is the main production company of the film and producers Miguel Eek (also director) and Marta Castells are building up the project as a four country international co-production: Spain, France, Portugal, Sweden. Mosaic already signed a co-development deal memo with all partners and all four partners are part of the consortium for the MEDIA Co-development grant application. They also signed a co-production deal memo. The shooting in 16mm/Super 8 will take place in Portugal, Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau.
