Amoeba Music Apartments

planned

The co-owners of Berkeley's Amoeba Music plan to build an eight-story, student-focused apartment building atop the store's first location at 2455 Telegraph Ave in Berkeley. The project will preserve the historic 'People’s History of Telegraph Avenue' mural and the building's iconic rainbow arch. Most of the existing building will be torn down to make way for the apartments, while keeping the facade and rainbow-arched entry to the store. The record store will remain on the ground floor. The development team plans to submit a pre-application to the city soon and the project will go through the city's Landmark Preservation Commission and Planning Commission for review. The project was scaled back from an initial 22-story highrise plan to an eight-story building with about 100 units.
