Description | The Anahim Lake Solar Project is Canada's largest off-grid solar project located at the western edge of B.C.'s Chilcotin. It is owned 100% by Ulkatcho Energy Corporation (UEC) and aims to reduce the use of diesel in the Ulkatcho First Nation community by 64%, about 1.1 million litres per year, significantly reducing carbon emissions. The project involves transforming an old sawmill site to construct the solar plant, including new access roads, a control and monitoring facility, site fire management, signage, and security. BC Hydro will purchase the energy produced and integrate it into its microgrid for community access. The project is supported by multiple government funding programs and contributions from UGoC and Ulkatcho First Nation. |
