Description | The project involves the construction of an 8.73 km twin-tube unidirectional four-lane tunnel linking Kozhikode's Anakkampoyil in Thiruvambady panchayat to Kalladi in Meppadi panchayat of Wayanad. It aims to ease travel by bypassing the congested Thamarassery ghat section and boost agriculture and tourism. The project includes two major bridges across the Iruvazhinji river, three smaller bridges, and cross passages every 300m. Approximately 33 hectares of land, including 17.263 hectares of forest land, is being acquired. The tunnel is expected to reduce the distance between Anakkampoyil and Meppadi to 22 km and eliminate travel bottlenecks. |
