Angola - Health Services Rehabilitation Project in Uige Province

The proposed health services rehabilitation project is focused on the secondary and tertiary health structures in the Uige province. This choice is justified by the absence of donors in the province and by the inadequate medical coverage owing to the socio-political instability of the country. The project is part of the efforts currently deployed under the reintegration of the displaced populations and meets the Government’s determination to see the Bank involved in this sustainable reconstruction policy. It falls under the Bank Group’s interim strategy in Angola (2001- 2002) approved by the Board in December 2000 and is among the priorities of the Government’s interim PRSP, which is being prepared with the assistance of the Bank, the Bretton Woods Institutions and other development partners. The project has the following four components: (i) improvement of health services quality; (ii) support for national health programmes; (iii) human resources development; and (iv) project co-ordination and management. It will be implemented over a period of four (4) years.
