International Festival of Animated Films Anifilm is the largest event dedicated to animation in the Czech Republic. The festival is a prestigious European cultural event and 2023 will see its 22nd edition. Anifilm’s mission is to present current trends, technologies and animation techniques in its programme. It also supports works in progress and their authors. Anifilm is aimed at authors and film professionals as well as students, educators, film theorists and all fans of animation, including children. Anifilm also strives to represent the Czech Republic in an international context on a long-term basis. To reach its mission, the festival uses: 1) Film programme that consists of an extensive competition programme (7 international competition categories and 5 categories of the Czech Horizon, national competition) and non-competitive programme. The non-competitive programme reflects new trends, original topics and includes retrospectives and unusual perspectives on archive footage; 2) Industry programme: lectures, masterclasses, expert introductions and programme including presentations of film projects in development, meetings with filmmakers and workshops; 3) Accompanying programme (concerts, theatre and exhibitions). The festival takes place in the city of Liberec in North Bohemia, in close vicinity to neighbouring countries (Germany, Poland). In the festival city of Liberec, the programme of Anifilm takes place at 15 different festival venues – cinemas, lecture halls, galleries and squares (open-air screenings). Each year, the festival registers around 30,000 unique visits. But Anifilm is not only the festival itself, it also includes several year-round activities: Aniont, Anifilm Echoes, Day of Czech Animation and Anifilm Distribution. Anifilm is organised by the Civic Association for Support of Animated Film (OSPAF – Občanské sdružení pro podporu animovaného filmu z.s.). This association covers all activities of the festival team throughout the year.
