Description

Description

The Brussels International Animation Film Festival has been organised every year since 1982 by the non-profit association Folioscope. In 2026 then 2027 the festival will present more than 250 exclusively animated films, films created frame by frame and not shot in live action, in more than 150 screenings over 10 days. Animation has come a long way in recent years, from a niche genre to one of the most trendy and innovative in the film industry. The next two editions are scheduled for 13-22 February 2026 and 19-28 February 2027. They will take place in the beautiful Flagey building in Brussels. There will be also decentralised programmes in 12 locations in Wallonia and Flanders. Anima is the only festival of its kind in Belgium and one of the most important animation festivals in Europe, with more than 45000 spectators expected. Anima is qualified to nominate its candidates for the Oscar® and the BAFTA for Best Animated Short Film. The selected films will be very diverse, with more than 35 features, 200 short films, and +40 nationalities. They will be suitable for all audiences, from very young children to professional audiences and films for adults or the whole family. The festival is also known for its inclusive programming, open to diversity and very child-friendly. It is also famous for its friendly atmosphere and its pancakes! The festival will showcase the latest in animation as well as a range of new, cutting-edge offerings. A whole week of conferences, round tables, master classes and speed dating are planned for the international and Belgian professional sector (Futuranima). Interactive experiences, VR films, a digital playground for children and a streaming platform will also be on offer to all festival visitors. Folioscope will also organise Anima Saturdays (one session per month) and Anima on Tour screenings, and will help to promote animation in Belgium and abroad in every possible way. www.animafestival.be
