ANIMATEKA INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED FILM FESTIVAL

ongoing

Animateka is an international festival dedicated to high-quality auteur animated films. The 22nd and 23rd editions will once again feature the best productions of a) short animated films from Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe in the main competition programme, b) the most original European student films, c) a carefully curated selection of international films for children and teenagers, and d) a variety of feature films. Each year, we also offer special programmes, with 2025 featuring a retrospective on pinscreen animation, and 2026 focusing on queer representation in animation. The festival offers a rich film programme for both adults and children, the young and the elderly, alongside a wide array of events, including talks with authors, masterclasses, roundtable discussions, a regional pitching session (all within the industry-oriented platform AnimatekaPRO), workshops, exhibitions, concerts, and informal gatherings. Our shared goal is to create a space where professionals from both the region and around the world can meet, collaborate, and foster co-productions, while also sparking interest among the local public and inspiring them to fall in love with animated films. Throughout the year, we focus on distribution and film education activities, particularly aimed at children and young adults. Our educational programme is based on a long-standing collaboration with a wide network of kindergartens, schools, and other educational institutions across the country, a network we have developed over more than 20 years. The programme includes workshops, screenings, guided talks, and lectures. We are also a proud member of the Animation Festival Network, founded in 2020 as a natural continuation of our previous collaborations. This network provides a formal platform to achieve common goals: promoting artistic animation, reaching a broader audience, and strengthening our capabilities through the exchange of successful practices and experiences.
