Description
Description | Researchers at Washington University in St Louis developed a durable new catalyst for an anion-exchange membrane water electrolyser (AEMWE) that produces clean hydrogen without relying on expensive platinum metals. The catalyst combines rhenium phosphide and molybdenum phosphide to improve hydrogen extraction, paired with a nickel-iron anode, showing better performance than leading state-of-the-art cathodes. The catalyst operated for over 1,000 hours at industry-level current densities, making it one of the most durable platinum-free cathodes for AEMWEs. The technology is currently at laboratory scale with plans for industrial expansion. |
