Annaba and El Tarf Management Contract

On December 17, 2007, Gelsenwasser of Germany signed a 5.5 year management contract with Algeria’s Ministry for Water Resources, Algerienne des Eaux, to modernize and manage potable water and sanitation in the regions of Annaba and El Tarf, Algeria. Gelsenwasser was responsible for managing water in 36 municipalities with a total population of approximately 1 million inhabitants. The terms of the contract also included the assistance in the establishment of a training center in the region. On November 29, 2006, three companies qualified for the final bidding round of an international tender: Gelsenwasser (Germany), Agbar Water (Spain) and Saur International (France). Agbar Water (Spain) and Saur International (France) also qualified for management contracts in Constantine and Oran (project 4482). The contract was officially awarded to Gelsenwasser for US $33 million (23 million euro). The assets belonged to a state owned enterprise comprised in equal parts by the Algerian government ministries Algérienne des Eaux and the Office Nacional de l’Assainissement.
