Description | The project involved replacing the original 1970s-era outfall pipe at Metro Vancouver's Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant with a new tunnel system. The new tunnel, completed in August 2025, provides increased capacity, enhanced durability, seismic resilience, and improved effluent dilution in the Fraser River. It includes two 4.2-metre-diameter tunnels installed beneath areas vulnerable to soil liquefaction and a 2.5-meter-diameter diffuser manifold pipe system in the riverbed to minimize environmental impact. The system addresses future sea level rise and ensures reliable operation after seismic events. |
