ANOTHER STORY is a pan-European initiative inviting audiences to discover and learn from women documentary filmmakers of the 20th and 21st centuries. ANOTHER STORY aims to bring new attention to remarkable films overlooked by cinema history, focusing on documentaries by women directors. Their work uncovers hidden narratives and opens doors to unfamiliar perspectives, shaping our shared cultural memory. Across two years, with 20 films and 32 events in 11 countries, we aim to reach 145,000 viewers and participants. Our network of four festivals and nine associated partners will engage audiences through carefully curated selections, dynamic outreach efforts, and interactive learning formats. We will offer four key formats: festival screenings, Wikipedia editing workshops, critic’s labs, and public discussion panels. Digital platforms like Letterboxd and Wikipedia will be essential tools for sharing knowledge, fostering discovery, and educating diverse, intergenerational audiences on gender biases and women’s representation in cinema. Through Festival Scope, a well-established European platform, we will open access to rarely seen films for both general viewers and professionals. Our mission is to enhance visibility, accessibility, and circulation for these overlooked works. We want to spark curiosity, invite conversations, and share women’s artistic visions and cultural contributions. By reconnecting with the legacy of pioneering women filmmakers, we will help inspire future generations of documentary creators. Together, we join a collective pan-European effort to reshape film history through education, participation, and rediscovery.
