Description

The project’s initial handling capacity is of 600,000TEU, expandable to 800,000 TEU, 1.15 million tons of general cargo annually, 3 million tons of bulk cargo, and 60,000 vehicles. It will be capable of handling super post-Panamax vessels. Main components of the project include: an offshore platform with 1,337 meters of berth, 570m for container operations, 537m for bulk and general cargo, 230m for RORO, a 3.8km viaduct, onshore bridge over the León River, a new 2.4km two-lane access road between onshore facility and the town of Nueva Colonia. Colombian Sociedad Portuaria Puerto Bahía Colombia de Urabá, also known as Antioquia Port is developing the project. Concession contract is for 30 years. The consortium comprises of: - CMA Terminal Holdings - Eiffage - Puertos Inversiones y Obras - a private consortium of banana producers and exporters comprising CI Uniban, Agricola Santamaria, Banafrut and CI Tropical Total project cost is USD 480.00m (some sources suggest different amounts). IDB Invest have provided USD 150.00m loan and Global Infrastructure Partners Capital Solutions Funds I and II (GIP CAPS) have provided a $110 million loan. This is in addition to equity capital from the sponsors amounting to USD 220.00m.
