Description | Novosibirskelectrosvyaz is the regional monopoly provider of the telephone services to Novosibirskaya Region in Western Siberia. The company operated more than 250,000 telephone lines in a region with 1.3 million inhabitants surrounding Novosibirsk, Siberia's largest city. Novosibirskelectrosvyaz ranks among the most successful and powerful Siberian telephone companies. The company shared the local market with Novosibirsk City Telephone network by 1998. It also provides national, international services, TV and media broadcasting, telegraph services, and cellular communications through different subsidiaries. In 1996, the company formed a GSM cellular service together with Rostelecom. The company is included in the People's Telephone program that allows it to raise investment from households who want to get a phone. The company was privatized in 1993, following the formation of Svyazinform. By 1998, the main shareholders were Svyazinvest (38% of the common stock, 50.7% of the voting rights), SibElfin (10.8%); and Praid 5.7%. The rest of the shares were held by private investors and employees. Became a branch of JSC Sibirtelecom in November 2002. |
