AO Rostov Electrosvyaz is the local telecommunications service provider for the Rostov Region in Central Russia. The company provides local telephone service through its own network. The company also offers national and international service through Rostelecom's infrastructure. The company was partially privatized in 1993, after the formation of Svyazinvest, the national holding company. Svyazinform held 38% of the common shares and 51% of the voting shares by 1998. A 10.2% stake was owned by legal entities and the remaining by individuals and employees. AO Rostov Electrosvyaz operated 605,000 access lines and 899 switches in 1996. The digitalization rate was 17%. The company's revenues in 1996 exceeded $104 million. AO Rostov Electrosvyaz is a part of the ITUR fiber-optic cable. Became a branch of Southern Telecom in November 2002.
