Description | The U.S. Department of Energy announced a $17.5 billion conditional loan package to support the construction of 10 AP1000 commercial nuclear reactors. The funding is issued through the Office of Energy Dominance Financing in partnership with Westinghouse Electric Co. The loans finance long-lead component purchases with staggered disbursements tied to partner equity commitments. Five eligible projects will each build two 1.1 GW AP1000 reactors, requiring $500 million equity commitment per project before accessing DOE funding. The strategy aims to reduce costs, strengthen the domestic nuclear supply chain, and accelerate deployment to expand reliable baseload power generation and support faster reactor construction. |
