Aqua-Spark Fund: Sustainable aquaculture in Africa

Global food production must increase by 50% over the next 30 years to meet growing food demands. Already, approximately 260 million people in sub-Saharan Africa are undernourished and more than half the population is food insecure. The population in this region is expected to double by 2050, exacerbating food security challenges. Aquatic foods, particularly fish, can make an important contribution by providing protein and micronutrients and combating malnutrition. The Aqua Spark Africa Fund (ASAF) aims to promote sustainable growth of the aquaculture sector in Africa and improve food security. It will finance companies along the entire aquaculture value chain to expand their production and make it environmentally sustainable. It will also support a Technical Assistance Facility of the Fund, which will provide advisory services to the supported companies.
