Description | In August 2013, the state-owned company Aguas de Palmira awarded the 20-year contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the water and sewerage services of Palmira to Union Temporal Aquaoccidente. Aquaoccidente was established as a partnership of the Spanish company Sociedad General Aguas de Barcelona, its subsidiary Aqualogy Latam S.A. E.S.P. and the Colombian companies of the group Empresas de Via Grupo S.A.S. (Inversiones Castillo del Mar S.A.S., Jerbi S.A.S. y Promociones J. Villegas & CIA). Aqualogy Latam was chosen to by the project operator. Besides Aquaoccidente, only another bidder took park in the bidding process: Consorcio Inassa. The criteria used to select the private sponsor was the best technical and economical proposal. The concession contract was signed in September 2013, and the sponsors committed to invest US$ 129 million in the project. As of 2014, The municipality of Palmira had a population of 380 thousand. |
