Description
Description | OAS Solucoes Ambientais, a subsidiary of the Brazilian group OAS, was awarded the 30-year concession contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the water and sewerage facilities of the city of Aracatuba (state of Sao Paulo) in July 2012. The contract was awarded by the municipality's central administration, the private sponsor undertook the responsibility to supply water for the entire population of the municipality and to attend 15% of the sewerage services. The population of Aracatuba was estimated at 180,000, with a water system with 599-km in length and a sewerage system with 590-km in length. OAS was awarded the contract by offering the highest payment to the government (US$ 176,2 million or BRL 344 million). Three other Brazilian companies took part in the bidding process: the Sao Paulo state-owned company Sabesp, Odebrecht's subsidiary Foz do Brasil and Equipav. The special purpose company created to manage the project Solucoes Ambientais de Aracatuba (Samar) took over the operation of the water and sewerage services in September 2012. The private sponsor committed to invest US$ 189.6 million (BRL 370 million) over the life of the project. In 2015, OAS sold its shares in Samar to the Korean company GS Inima. |
