Description

The project comprises the construction and operation of three hydropower plants in the Jauru river, Mato Grosso state. The total installed capacity will be 63MW. The company responsible for the project is Araputanga Centrais Eletricas SA (Arapucel), controlled by BK Energia Participacoes Ltda, owned by Brennand group (80%) and by Klobitz Ltda (20%). The estimated total costs were US$62.5 million (R$417 million). The Brazilian Development Bank, BNDES, approved a financing of US$45.5 million (R$107 million) for the project in September 2001. The first plant (Alto Jauru – 20MW) started operations in the first semester of 2003. The second plant (Indiavai – 26MW) was expected to start operations in July 2003. The third plant (Ombreiras – 30MW) was expected to be operation in May 2004. In June 2003, BK Energia signed a PPA to sell the energy produce by all three plants to Centrais Eletricas do Mato Grosso (Cemat).
