a. Objectives Arcadia is a family drama set in a dystopian world. After what we could call phase 5 of climate change, almost all human life is swiped away. Survivors create a new world, a new order, a new society. They see it as a second chance for human kind and introduce a citizen score. A score that decides what you can do and what you can’t. A score that decides what you’re entitled to. But there’s a catch. There is also minimum score. That’s the point where you cost more to society than you contribute. If you go below the minimum score, you get expelled outside the walls of Arcadia, to no man's land. It’s the Arcadian version of a death sentence. It is jonnydepony’s ambition to create the first Benelux dystopian/sci-fi series. Arcadia is a search for a near-fi in a very unique European look and feel, in contrast to well-known American science fiction. This application is for season 2 of Arcadia. b. Activities Thematically our main objective is to show the audience the dangers of the idea that “we all get what we deserve”. Because in truth (and at the heart of our European democratic values), we need solidarity. We are proud to have created a series that feels deliberately and effortlessly diverse. The women convincingly pull the action. They fill key leading roles, in a world where colour is no issue, nor is sexual preference. Inclusion is imbedded on script level. c. Type and n° of persons benefiting from the project jonnydepony, founded by Helen Perquy & Philippe De Schepper, an independent Belgian company. VRT, NPO, WDR/SWR, VAF and Wild Bunch are also benefitting parties. d. Expected results The strong financing from the start with solid partners like VRT, KRO-NCRV (NPO) and SWR/WDR and distributor Wild Bunch are guarantee for a successful international career. We aim for a young and broad worldwide audience. e. Type and n° of outputs to be produced Arcadia 2 is a TV fiction series of 8 x 48’. Together with S1 there will be 16 episodes.
