Description
Description | The Brazilian company Arcadis Logos Energia and several small local investors were granted authorizations to build two small hydro power plants located in the state of Mato Grosso, municipality of Rondonopolis and Pedra Preta (50.3 MW in total capacity). The 30-year contracts were signed with the regulatory agency ANEEL in December 2002. The private investors would control the projects through its subsidiaries Hydropower Energia S.A. (PCH Jose Gelasio da Rocha) and Tupan Energia Eletrica S.A. (PCH Rondonopolis). Construction works on these plants started in 2006, and both projects were operational early in 2007. The investment committed to the PCH Jose Gelasio da Rocha was estimated at US$ 22.1 million (BRL 37.9 million in 2002 or BRL 48.1 million in 2006), while the investment in the PCH Rondonopolis was estimated at US$ 20.7 million (BRL 42.5 million in 2002 or BRL 57.4 million in 2006). In July 2008, Tractebel Energia S.A. (a Brazilian subsidiary of GDF – Suez) acquired both projects (project #1991). This transaction´s total cost was estimated in US$ 116.8 million (BRL 213.9 million). The power plants have signed power purchase agreements with the state-owned company Eletrobras for 20 years through the Brazilian Federal program PROINFA (incentive program for alternative power generating companies). |
