Description

Description

Concar, a subsidiary of the Peruvian company Grana y Montero, was awarded the contract to rehabilitate and operate the Arequipa - Matarani highway in Nov. 1994. The company committed to invest a total of US$ 6 million in the highway infrastructure during the 6 years and 2 months concession period. However, the cost was initially underestimated and the company actual investment has been US$ 8.1 million. Due to this problem, the company obtained an extension of its contract by one year in 2001. The annual traffic flow in the toll road has increased from 1,206,000 vehicles in 1995 to 1,369,000 vehicles in 1998.
