Digital innovation can no longer be forgotten from our society and will only increase in importance. Although the coronavirus crisis has accelerated the digitisation trend in recent years both in Flanders and in the Netherlands, there are still many challenges. In addition to digitalisation, collaboration is crucial for companies to achieve innovation. As innovation is becoming increasingly complex, a company can make the most of its research and development investments through collaborations. Companies collaborate with colleges on digital transformation Art-IE – Artificial Intelligence Inspiration and Innovation – focuses on the next phase of digital innovation and collaboration with companies. The focus is on AI and three themes are discussed: Federated Machine Learning, Robotics & AI and Applied AI. AI is widely employable and offers opportunities to tackle complex societal and economic challenges. For example, AI is used in the healthcare sector to provide personal health advice and helps us to improve cyber security. In production environments, AI can optimise complex logistics processes and contribute to an optimal working relationship between man and machine. At the heart of this project are the Flemish and Dutch colleges, which with their substantive expertise and state-of-the-art infrastructure are perfectly placed to introduce companies to these innovative digital technologies, and in particular their practice-oriented research on AI. As a stepping stone to collaboration with colleges, the project aims to inspire companies through open lab days, talks, theme days and events. Three AI labs will also be realised, each with a specific expertise. Companies are challenged to develop an innovation issue and actively cooperate with a university of applied sciences in one of the labs.
