Description

Description

ARTE GEIE, ARTE France Cinéma and the Association des Cinémathèques européennes in partnership with Festival Scope will develop a unique cinema offering, accessible online and free of charge to a large European audience, as a response to the lack of availability and limited circulation and audience of European audiovisual works. From December 2021 onwards, Europeans will have access to over 100 European arthouse and heritage films. The carefully selected ArteKino catalogue will include a monthly programming as well as two digital events: a Festival of new talents in December followed by a Season of heritage films in spring. ArteKino will be made accessible on ARTE’s digital properties, free of charge, throughout Europe, in French, German, English, Spanish, Polish and Italian, thereby targeting 70% of Europeans in their mother tongue. In order to ensure a wider circulation of the film catalogue and to reach a large online audience, actions will be implemented digitally but also offline thanks to the consortium partners and to optimised synergies with selected players: VOD platforms, theatrical networks, film festivals and sponsors. A multilingual and multi-territorial marketing campaign and a collaboration with local press agencies will further enhance the visibility, findability and notoriety of the catalogue. Younger audiences will also be targeted through social media, masterclasses and a large pan-European campaign orchestrated to form a European Young Jury. The project will be implemented in a sustainable and cost-efficient way and will rely on experimental multilingual and recommendation tools as well as on innovative business practices and models based on a strong cooperation with stakeholders and a combination of public and private financing. The consortium will draw lessons from this experience which will be shared with the field in order to improve the transparency and competitiveness of the European audiovisual industry.
