Arun Valley Hydro Power Development Company was planning the development of the 3MW Piluwa Khola run-of-river hydropower plant, near Sankhuwasabha District, Koshi Zone, Piluwa River, a tributary of Arun River. The PPA was signed with NEA in 2000, to supply 19.56GWh annually. Construction started in March 2000 and was completed in August 2003. Commercial operation started on September 18th 2003. The project was connected to the grid via a 33kV transmission line. Equipment was supplied by Wasserkraft Volk AG, from Germany (Turgo impulse turbines).Civil work ws done by Marushin Shitaka Construction Company (Japan). Metal works was done by Machhapuchhere Metal and Machinery Works Company, Pokhara, Nepal. No further financial information about the project was available. The financial closure date was an estimate (completed construction, September 2003). The total cost was US$1.45 million per MW (US$4.35 million), or Nrs.326.4 million. The IRR of the project was reported as 22.8%.
