Arviat Lagoon Expansion Planning Project

The Municipality of Arviat requires an upgraded and expanded wastewater treatment facility for storage and treatment over the next 20 years. In the first phase of this project, a business case was developed that indicated the preferred solution is to develop a two cell lagoon whereby a new cell would be constructed adjacent to the existing lagoon on undeveloped land while the existing lagoon is rehabilitated and expanded. This would require staging of the construction of each cell to ensure that the hamlet operators are continuously able to discharge municipal wastewater into a lagoon cell. The purpose of the subsequent phase of this project is to facilitate design services related to the proposed wastewater treatment facility. After design is complete, construction funding requests will occur. Within the design phase, the consultant will, at a minimum, conduct geotechnical work, a granular supply assessment, and develop a design development report alongside Issued for Tender drawings / specifications. Based on work completed within the business case, the proposed wastewater treatment facility, consisting of both cells and the downstream wetland treatment area, cover an area in excess of 18 ha.
