Description | The Asean power grid aims to enhance cross-border electricity trade in South-east Asia to ensure energy security and support the energy transition by integrating renewable energy sources across countries. Eighteen key interconnection projects have been identified, with half completed. The Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore (LTMS) electricity import pilot launched in 2022 marked the region's first multilateral electricity trade. The Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines power integration project was announced in August 2023 to create multiple interconnections across the grids of the four countries, with feasibility studies required before financing subsea cables. |
