Description

Description

The Asutsuare Bulk Water project is a project to provide for bulk water supply to the AccraTema water system. It is a design-build-financeoperate (DBFO) arrangement. The project involves, as physical infrastructure, a water treatment plant at Asutsuare taking water from the Volta River, two transmission pipelines of 72 km each to distribution points in Accra and Tema, high pressure pumps and terminal reservoirs. The purpose of this project is to address the growing gap between the demand and supply of water in the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) service system in the Accra and Tema metropolitan areas, with a population of three to four million. The water from the Project is to be produced in two stages, the first (180,000 m3/day) expected to come on stream in 2016 and the second (360,000 m3/day in total) in 2018. The Project is expected to almost double the supply of water going to the metropolitan service area.
