Description

Asya Port Limani is a joint venture between Global Terminal Ltd, part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) group, and the Soyuer family. Local special purpose company Asya Port Limani A.S. was to use the financing to design, build, operate and maintain the container terminal which was to be able to handle mega-vessels at the Sea of Marmara side of the Bosporus. The terminal was going to be equipped to handle 1.9 million TEU. Aysa was to become a trans-shipment hub (loading on to smaller ships to go through the Bosporus into the Black Sea), and becoming one of the largest container terminals in the country. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was to provide a $92 million (67 million euro) loan for the AsyaPort trans-shipment container terminal project in the town of Barbaros in the northwestern Turkish province of Tekirdag. Further financing was provided by the International Finance Corporation ($69 million) and Turkish lender Isbank ($106.6 million) in parallel loans. http://ifcext.ifc.org/ifcext/spiwebsite1.nsf/651aeb16abd09c1f8525797d006976ba/320efb83b3d4ad1c85257b5600556276
