Athena Studios Data Center Conversion

planned

Athena Studios near Ben Epps Airport in Athens, Georgia, originally a film and television production facility, is being converted into a 1.3 million square-foot data center to handle AI chatbot responses. The project involves using a new 'closed loop' cooling system to minimize water usage. The data center falls under the existing employment-industrial zoning and could be built by right, pending compliance with local requirements. The Athens-Clarke County Commission is considering a moratorium on new data centers, which may or may not affect this project.
