Description | The Atlantic Railroad Equipment Project for Colombia will provide a loan of US $5.4 million to the Colombian National Railroads (CNR) to finance the procurement of railroad equipment. The new Atlantic Railroad will begin operating in 1961. It will bring substantial benefits to the economy of Colombia. However, these benefits may be limited if the CNR does not purchase railroad equipment to handle the freight and passenger traffic demands of the new railroad. The project will alleviate this problem by procuring: 1) 16 diesel locomotives; 2) parts to rehabilitate passenger coaches; 3) 285 freight cars; and 4) shop equipment. These new additions will prepare the CNR to handle traffic demands when the Atlantic Railroad opens in Colombia. |
