Description | The Atlantic Yards project, also known as Pacific Park, is a long-stalled redevelopment initiative in Central Brooklyn near Barclays Center. Originally proposed to create more than 6,400 apartments including 2,250 affordable units across 15 buildings, the project has only realized about half of the promised housing over two decades. A new development team, Brooklyn Ascending Land Co., led by LCOR and Cirrus Real Estate Partners, proposes to build 9,000 apartments with taller buildings to create more public open space. The project involves building over Long Island Rail Road tracks and includes residential towers on a parcel west of Flatbush Avenue. The new team took over after the previous developer, Greenland USA, defaulted on loans and faced foreclosure. The project is overseen by the Empire State Development agency and requires updates to the general project plan, with public meetings planned to discuss redevelopment and gather community feedback. |
