Au Train Dam Hydropower License Revocation and Powerhouse Eviction

The Au Train Dam in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is facing license revocation by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) due to long-term noncompliance and safety violations. A new landowner, David R. Charles, who purchased most of the dam's project lands in a foreclosure sale, plans to evict Renewable World Energies (RWE), the dam owner, from the powerhouse property by January 1, 2026. This eviction has triggered efforts by state and federal agencies to safely shut down the hydroelectric facility and manage water flows to prevent dam failure risks.
