Description | The Au Train Dam, a 108-year-old hydroelectric dam in Alger County, Michigan, is facing license revocation due to unresolved safety violations and loss of control over key project lands. The dam owner, Renewable World Energies (RWE) of Wisconsin, is being evicted from the hydroplant property after the land was purchased through foreclosure sale by a new landowner, David R. Charles. The dam cannot safely pass a Probable Maximum Flood and the reservoir levels have been lowered for safety reasons. Efforts are underway to safely shut down the facility and maintain downstream river flows. |
