Description
Description | Project Connect is an ambitious public transit initiative in Austin, Texas, originally proposed as a $7.1 billion plan including a 27-mile multiline light rail system linking Austin–Bergstrom International Airport to downtown. The project also includes upgrades to commuter lines, rapid bus lines, and affordable housing commitments. Due to cost overruns and inflation, the light rail component was significantly scaled down to a single 9.8-mile line with 15 stations and a reduced budget of $5.1 billion. The project is funded by a permanent 20% property tax increase approved by voters in 2020 under Proposition A, managed by the Austin Transit Partnership (ATP). |
