The Australian government has proposed a AUD 10 billion package to support near-term fuel and fertiliser security amid price shocks due to the Middle East conflict. The package includes AUD 7.5 billion to establish a fuel and fertiliser security facility to increase supply and storage through loans, equity guarantees, insurance, and price support, and AUD 3.2 billion for a state-owned fuel reserve and feasibility funding to expand refineries. The package aims to support domestic hydrogen projects by anchoring demand and integrating hydrogen production with products and supply chains such as fertilisers, low-carbon fuels, methanol, ammonia, and industrial feedstocks.
