Description
Description | The Australia LNG domestic reservation policy mandates that LNG export projects channel volumes equivalent to 20% of their export output into the domestic market. The policy aims to resolve the tension between export maximisation and domestic affordability by creating a structural buyers' market for domestic gas through a permit-linked compliance mechanism. It applies to new export agreements and spot LNG transactions signed after December 2025, with long-term contracted volumes grandfathered. The policy is set to take effect from 1 July 2027 and is designed to shift domestic gas contracting terms in favour of industrial purchasers while protecting them from international price volatility. |
