Description | The Inland Rail project is a 1,600 km rail freight line intended to reduce journey times for container trains between Melbourne and Brisbane from 33 hours to less than 24 hours. The project involves 600 km of new and 1,000 km of upgraded railway to support 1,800 m long double-stack container trains running at speeds up to 115 km/h. The government has scaled back the project, stopping development of the northern section and focusing on completing the section between Beveridge near Melbourne and Parkes in New South Wales by the end of 2027. |
