Description | The Inland Rail project was an ambitious $45 billion infrastructure project intended to create a dedicated freight rail corridor from Melbourne to Brisbane, passing through New South Wales. It aimed to reduce congestion on existing transport routes, improve freight efficiency, and boost regional economies by connecting major agricultural, manufacturing, and mining regions. However, the northernmost section connecting New South Wales to Queensland has been cancelled due to escalating costs and governance challenges, with the remaining section from Beveridge in Victoria to Parkes in New South Wales continuing as planned, expected to complete by late 2027. |
