Description

Description

The objective of this project is to explore the impacts and effects of adverse weather and road weather conditions on automated vehicle (AV) perception and control systems in different traffic scenarios. Weather (atmospheric conditions) and road weather (pavement conditions) can adversely affect vehicle and driver behavior, impacting safety and mobility. With the advent of automated vehicles, additional research is needed to identify how vehicles and drivers will detect and react to adverse weather and road weather conditions at different levels of automation and in different driving environment such as work zones. This project will research how adverse weather and road weather conditions affect driver behavior, vehicle dynamics, vehicle operations, communications, and sensor capabilities at different levels of automation. There have been two previous phases which has included a literature review and technology scan; stakeholder engagement; two field tests; and a final report.
